Pet Wellness Exams
The Importance of Cat & Dog Wellness Exam
Pet wellness exams are key to helping your pet maintain their optimal health throughout their life.
Combined with regular vaccinations, parasite prevention and proper nutrition, these routine vet examinations include regular physical checkups to give your pet the best chance at excellent lifelong health.
When you bring your cat or dog in for their routine checkup, we are able to prevent health issues form ever arising in your pet, or to catch them early and at their most treatable.
What to Expect During Your Pet's Veterinary Exam
Your Tucson vet will give your dog or cat a thorough physical checkup in order to get a complete picture of his or her overall health. Routine pet wellness exams at our animal clinic include the following elements:
General Condition
Your pet's general demeanor and physical condition can both provide clues to their overall health. How your pet stands, walks, their level of alertness and whether or not they are a healthy weight for their size are all very important indicators when it comes to their overall health.
Coat & Skin
Throughout your pet's checkup, we will examine your cat or dog's skin and coat for any signs of health issues or illness. Signs of this include excessive oiliness, lumps, dryness, dandruff, abnormal hair loss, bumps or shedding.
Face & Head
Your pet's eyes, ears and nose will all be assessed for any abnormalities such as discharge. We will also check their mouths for any symptoms of oral health issues like plaque buildup and gum disease.
Internal Health
Your cat or dog's heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure and pulse are all critically important to the heart health of your companion. We will test each of these to make sure they are at normal levels. Their lungs will also be examined for any signs of abnormal breathing.
Lymph nodes will be checked for pain or swelling, and we will also examine the abdomen to ensure the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver, and stomach all feel normal, and that your pet is not exhibiting any signs of discomfort.
Review of Findings
After your pet's routine wellness exam, your vet will take time to speak with you about any concerns they may have about your pet's overall health and walk you through any special nutritional requirements your dog or cat may have.
Checkups for Puppies & Kittens
Puppies and kittens require dedicated medical attention throughout their first weeks of life in order to get off to a healthy start.
We will provide your new best friends with a comprehensive physical examination as well as appropriate immunizations and deworming treatments. You'll also be provided with a kitten or puppy "kit" featuring educational materials, information resources and product samples to help you best care for your new four-legged family member.
Please never hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about caring for your new pet, both at your appointments or following your visits.
Once your puppy or kitten's checkup is complete, you'll return periodically for his or her required booster shots.
Vet Exams for Seniors
With recent advances in veterinary medical knowledge and care, as well as newer therapies and better nutrition, senior pets are living longer than ever.
While this is terrific news for pets and their owners, it means that special attention needs to be given to your pet's routine healthcare as they age. As your pet surpasses middle age, regular examinations become increasingly crucial to ensure their continuing health and longevity.
In addition to the routine pet wellness procedures we perform on all adult pets, we will give special attention to your senior pet's potential geriatric conditions, such as arthritis or decreased vision.
Additional laboratory tests may be recommended for aging pets to provide more detailed information about your senior pet's overall health and wellbeing.
Vaccinations & Prevention
During your pet's veterinary checkup at our Tucson animal hospital, the vet will also check whether your animal requires preventive care, or if they are due for any routine vaccinations.
